Good News for My Short Story

Now that I've signed the contract, I can tell you the good news about the short story I periodically mentioned I was editing. It's going to be published in Enchanted Conversation, a new online journal of fairytales. The first issue will be published online in January 2010, and the theme will be centered around "Sleeping Beauty." I wrote a short story called "The Scullery Boy Remembers," inspired by the following passage in the Grimms' version of the story:

The horses, too, went to sleep in the stable, the dogs in the yard, the pigeons upon the roof, the flies on the wall; even the fire that was flaming on the hearth became quiet and slept, the roast meat left off frizzling, and the cook, who was just going to pull the hair of the scullery boy, because he had forgotten something, let him go, and went to sleep.

I'll let you know when Enchanted Conversation debuts. In the meantime, take a look at the submissions guidelines and topics for future issues.

LSM and JKA: Thank you very much! It's odd how that particular passage of "Sleeping Beauty" has stuck with me for years, and yet it is only now that I have written anything about it.

Oh I can't WAIT to read that!

I've always wanted to write something about the dude in The Frog Prince who had bands around his heart. Is it Faithful Henry? But I figured probably lots of folks have written about him.

CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!

I'm very proud of you - well done! I'm really looking forward to reading it - so slack I haven't been to the diamonds and toads site to even read the other entries, let alone finished my own half-written version :( I thought I would have free time after my exams, but I'm so busy making lifestyle changes instead :) You have inspired me though. I am definitely going to make time for some writing this week.

Oh - we put up our little nativity yesterday. I will take some pictures soon and put them on facebook so you can see my 'cardboard and fabric' version. I had been thinking of making a new one similar to yours - and I probably will for next year, but a sturdy one that the kids can play with - because while setting mine up I discovered I was so fond of it I couldn't bear to replace it, for all its faults lol
