The Justice League interviews Max and Pinky

Max and Pinky (of The Adventures of Max and Pinky: Superheroes, by Maxwell Caton III) have decided to apply for membership to the Justice League. Minh Le of Bottom Shelf Books has the scoop, though for some reason, Green Arrow missed out on the interview panel. However, I can just imagine what the interchange would have been like:

Green Arrow: So, what are you going to do for the little man?

Max and Pinky: We are the little men!

Green Arrow: You're a little man and a little pig, but who quibbles over the details? Right then, here you go (hands Max and Pinky fliers for the next labor rally).

Superhero Tea-Party

Sometimes, when I pick up my guitar, Lucia howls, "Don't play the guitar! Hold you! Hold you like a baby!" She tries to mute the strings with her hands. When it gets bad, I go to the bedroom, brace the door shut by sitting with my back against it, and practice guitar while Lucia howls and pounds to get in. I'm sure that'll crop up in therapy sessions someday.

Other times, Lucia pleasantly demands, "Mommy play the guitar." The chances of the latter scenario increase when I make up silly songs. One impromptu song that I came up with during Lucia's Superhero-fixation phase turned into a regularly requested piece:

Story and Song Girl

This is Lucia's dolly named Pepper, accompanied by a pet unicorn:

Today, Lucia asked me to tell her a story about Pepper. I replied that it was Lucia's turn to tell a story. With some prompting,* Lucia told me this story:

Once upon a time there were two little girls named Salt and Pepper, and they lived with their mommy and daddy in a house off in the distance. And they went to the store, and they saw Dan Zanes. And they had a railing, and they went up on the roof, and they climbed back down. She got Superman in her hand. Pepper has a dress and Pepper has a magic diamond shaped buckle. They came over the bridge and there was a troll under the bridge.

Could a parent be prouder? I think not. If that weren't enough, I received my new storytelling step-stool** today, and Lucia promptly claimed it, then asked for her little guitar. We jammed for awhile to "Buffalo Gals" and then I made up a song about Superman and Batman:

**The step-stool is an heirloom made from an old chest of drawers. Note in the photo that Lucia's own step-stool is near her little table in the back, yet she was indignant when I suggested as much.
