Tanita Davis Wins Coretta Scott King Honor Award

I'm thrilled that author, blogger and friend Tanita S. Davis won the 2010 Coretta Scott King Honor award for Mare's War. You can find all of the rest of the American Library Assciation awards at the press release found here (good luck finding it merely by going to http://ala.org).

I need to get a sticker now... and make a cake, too. Tanita, I'm making you a cake!

OOh! Cake!

You know, it was fairly hilarious -- my AGENT and I were on the phone together, both of us Googling madly, trying to find the whole list yesterday. I realize that it was early days, but somehow the CSK wasn't on the main page. We had to take Knopf's word for it that MARE'S WAR had been honored, for awhile. Which was ...surreal. On a number of levels.

Thank you for celebrating with me.

Tanita: As far back as I can remember in the existence of the ALA webpage, the awards have never been easy to find. Even when I went to the press releases and committees pages, the press releases were not there.

Huzzah, huzzah! What kind of cake should I make?

P.S. I should amend my statement to say that the press releases never seemed to be where they should have obviously been placed.

I suppose it's time to start talking about which celebrity is going to hold Mare's War for the READ poster. Heh.

That would be interesting, the READ poster!

Um... since I'm now on a DIET 'til I go to D.C. for the award thingies (*sigh* People LOOKING at me! This is not good!), I'm thinking angel food. With berries.

Good for Tanita! And good for you, Farida, for putting it in your blog (and making a cake, which I'm sure will be scrum-diddly-umptious!).

PS - A book of mine was also honoured this week. Please visit my blog to check it out!

So, I've got a confession to make, Tanita. I didn't end up making you a cake. However, I did bake in your honor a double-batch of cardamom blueberry muffins made with fresh, not frozen blueberries. They are tasty, and I wish you could have some. I don't think they'd survive the trip to Scotland, though.
