Nine Kinds of Pie?

"There was nothing but pie. But there were all nine kinds of pie that Harold liked best."--Crockett Johnson, Harold and the Purple Crayon.

This is the song going through my head right now:

Rhubarb Pie
Rhubarb Pie
It might rain tomorrow
Better get some before I die

Save your lemons
Get 'em up in the tree
Save your peaches
They really don't get to me
Talk about somethin' sure gonna
make me shout
Go on get some rhubarb pie
That's what it's all about...
--John Fogerty

The other songs about pie I know are:
Blackberry Pie--Johnny Bregar
Blueberry Pie--Bette Midler
Rhubarb Pie (Hot Commodity)--Laurie Berkner

What else have we got? I'd like songs that are about actual pie, and not endearments or euphemisms like "Honey Pie" by the Beatles, "Custard Pie" like Led Zeppelin or "Cherry Pie" by Warrant. Aligator Pie would be fine, but we need songs, please. We've got to have nine kinds of pie!

"Baseball, hot dogs, APPLE PIE and Chevrolet"

Sorry, the commerical jingle is the best I can do.

Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye;
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
the birds began to sing;
Wasn't that a dainty dish to set
before the King?

Uh... there's always the Monty Python Pie song... erm, much like the Spam song... but that's all I've got.

Your picture's sure purty, though. Makes me want rhubarb, and I've only ever eaten it once in my life (and with strawberries, so I can't say I really even know what rhubarb pie tastes like...)

What about songs about "cobbler?" I bought some apples with serious intent to make a cobbler for the people in the office. I'll post pictures, I'm sure.

Still undecided about rhubarb.

P.S. Pecan pie is clearly the best pie EVER. Keep the gooin the middle and the crust, but the nuts on top make the BEST topping for vanilla ice cream.

Yeah, I've got serious pie issues. LOL

Lady K: Still "undecided" about rhubarb? More for me, kiddo! More for me. Do you have songs about cobbler?

In other news, Bette Midler's "Blueberry Pie" disappeared from my iTunes folder. Very suspicious. And since it's not available on iTunes, I'm going to have to hunt down another copy. Hiss boo. Pecan pie is lovely, but my favorite (next to rhubarb) is lemon. I tend toward the sour.

Tadmack: Rhubarb and strawberries go together so well they must be life-long soulmates of produce. A simple strawberry pie would be sweet. It's the sour part that is the rhubarb. It's no mistake that I'm growing both rhubarb and strawberries!

Do you think Harold would eat blackbird pie? I know I'd at least try it. I'll try most things. So far, the things I really don't like are: 1)sea urchin (2)organ meat (3)green peppers. That rules out steak-and-kidney pie.

Limpy99: I do appreciate the effort! The Chevrolet is a bit much, though-- what about souffle instead?

Well, blackbird might really be a tiny bit stringy, unless they were really little... then it'd be like quail. The French eat little tiny quail pies...

And a big 'urg' on the sea urchin. I don't eat organ meat either, and green peppers don't really... digest. (Do try orange and yellow ones - they even look more festive.) But blackbird pie, if you used a pastry crust and lots of peas and carrots like potpie just... might... work...

I cannot imagine not liking green peppers, but I would not eat blackbird pie. I adore rhubarb pie best of all, I think, but it's supposed to be bad for nursing.

Sorry- I don't know any pie songs!

Garrison Keillor does a song about Rhubarb Pie.

"Mama's little baby likes rhubarb, rhubarb. Mama's little baby likes rhubarb pie."

I'm a geeky Garrison fan.

:o)
