"Make Me a Willow [Chair] At Your Gate"

There is a spot in my yard by the front gate where nothing grows to fullness. Every plant I have rooted in the corner has gone belly-up. Even the weeds don't favor the spot. A couple of days ago, I placed a flower pot of new compost in the corner and placed a part-shade plant inside it. I'm not sure, but I think the plant died almost immediately. Several inches away from the spot, the bleeding-heart plant flourishes. (Also, you can see a little bit of moss on the edge near the sidewalk.) On the other side of the fence, our neighbor's part-shade plants are lush from the Puget Sound spring rain.

Yesterday, I gave up on anything of substance growing there. I bought a little willow chair for Lucia and placed it in the corner. It can be her contemplation spot, if she likes.

What a cool little chair! I want one! Maybe the soil's just not rich enough over there or there's some kind of invisible fungi in it.

The chair is so sweet. If this will be Lucia's contemplation spot, why not have her paint a few clay pots and plant some pretty flowers? Then you can build a little fairy house with twigs, moss, pinecones or whatever you find along the way. It'll be magic for her.

HipWriterMama: That is a lovely idea! The thing is, it seems to be that particular spot where nothing grows. I put some fresh soil from a bag I bought at the store and placed a plant in it. Perhaps a fairy house alone in the pot would work.

Lady K: It's most uncanny, indeed.

What a lovely chair! The lovliest I've ever seen. Where finds one willow chairs?

I was searching for how to make willow chairs and came across your blog. I had to subscribe as you are into the same sort of things as me. I create stories and have made fairy dolls to promote my book. I adore your bumble bee dolly. I will have to have a look at more of your blogs when I get time.

I have just fallen in love with this gorgeous little willow chair in your garden. I am currently creating a den for my little girl in our wild back garden and she wants me to make her some wooden furniture, so I am going to have to have a go at creating some fairy chairs very soon. Wish me luck as I think I will need it.

Butterfly Lullaby: How cool to get this comment on a years' old post! I'm happy to say that the spot in that garden where I "gave up" is now flourishing with shady plants like trillium, Smith's fairy bells, sarcacoca, and the like. The willow chair is now in the back yard on the porch of the little playhouse. I am impressed that you are going to take on making fairy chairs for your daughter. I wish you well, but suspect that if you use willow, you will have pretty good luck.
