Snippets

I have a storytelling gig coming up on October 23rd at the Shoreline Library where I'll help tell "scary stories for brave listeners" with Aerene Storms, Jim Beidle and others who will participate in an open mike session afterward. I know four or five scary stories in all, two of which are called "Skeleton Woman" (but are two different stories). The audience will probably be older than the usual set for whom I tell, so I'll leave the finger-puppets and felt birds at home.

Also, at the end of the month, I'm participating in my guitar teacher's coffee-shop jam. It's a laid-back guitar recital, and it'll give me more practice playing in front of other people. I'm planning to play "Water for the Elephants" and tell a Halloween story for the benefit of the children who will be there.

In the meantime, I've come down with yet another cold. (Yes, I wash my hands a lot, but I suppose I haven't washed them enough.) Does anyone have a miracle throat-gargle mixture to recommend? So far, I haven't done well with the vinegar concoctions, but maybe I just haven't yet found the right one.

I swear by Throat Coat tea. That's the closest I can come to recommending a gargle. Sorry.

Yes! I need to get more Throat Coat tea. Thanks.

I've been using Listerine for about two years and I've had one cold in all that time. Too long to be a coincidence methinks. It is not, however, effective against Lyme disease.

Good luck with scary story time. My faovrite was always the "Golden Arm" one.

Why does your life sound so glamorous to me? I'm sure you think is mundane but too me it seems magical.

Good luck with the guitar gig, you'll be great.

I love that illustration btw :)

I know of no miracle gargles. My stepdad used to prescribe me a week's dosage pack (descending amounts) of steroids when I was acting in musicals and would lose my voice - but that was allergies, not viruses. I hope you feel better!

Limpy99: I really should just paint my inner throat with Listerine. I've avoided Listerine in the past because it kills the good bacteria, but right now, the bad bacteria are winning and I need a boost.

Nonny: I only report the glamorous bits.:)

LSM: Thanks!

Slippery Elm lozenges always work wonders for me. Sorry you have another cold! Tis' the season...

Thanks, Lady K. It seems to be the season for me all year round. Sniffle sniffle (literally).

French kissing and an afternoon romp with Sir Ulric is sure to clear your throat - "Yes! Yes! YESSSSSS!"

YP: NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Sir Ulric is my brother. Please. This is not "Empire Strikes Back," I am not Princess Leia, and my brother is not Luke Skywalker. Ick, ick, ick.

Bede is my husband. The one, the only Venerable Bede. I'll kiss him, yes please.

strong scotch (I recommend Chivas, at least; Glenfiddich, if it's affordable) with hot tea. It worked wonders for me. Of course, you can't really go about a normal DAY when sloshed, huh?

Good luck with the "jam". It sounds like a blast. Please share a scary story with us when you have the chance!
