Our in-house soprano: The Magic Flute

The Unnecessary Children's Book Sequels That Never Were contest runs until midnight (Eastern Standard Time) of April 10, 2009.

Lucia loves Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, i.e. "The Magic Flute." Her favorite aria is "Der Hölle Rache" from the second act. You may hear Erika Miklosa sing it here and Sumi Jo sing it here. You may also watch and listen to Lucia sing a snippet of it here:

The costume is one that I found a few weeks ago at a local toy-shop for half of its original price. The original price was outrageous for the quality of the material and stitching. At half the price, it's still an indulgence, but worth the money in terms of the play value. I'm glad that Lucia doesn't know what the aria actually means. For her, the aria is joyful.

Love it! My Jacob (age 7) also loves The Magic Flute, and falls asleep listening to it on a regular basis. he is especially fond of Papageno and Papagena's duet.

Okay.
I'm a soprano.
Who wanted to be an opera singer.

I can probably sing this without too many hours of rehearsal. I am not, however, six?! Seven!? Revel in the awesomeness of Lucia! When it is time, she is going to rock the house with that voice. Wow. What purity. I hope you continue to encourage her to just have fun with that -- my life would have turned out so differently if I had been encouraged.

I am emailing this to my friend at Westminster...

That just brightened my day considerably.

Jules: I'm glad! It did mine, too.

LoneStarMa: I humbly thank you.;)

Anamaria: My daughter got a kick out of that!

Tanita: I hear you. I revel.

Marian the Librarian: Papageno's and Papagena's duet is my favorite. I am thinking about creating a Papagena doll, by the way.

The fact you know who Sumi Jo is makes you very cool in my book.

Lucia is so lovely and just a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing this.

Of course, what I love best is the whispered "Can I watch it?" at the end. Between the singing and the spectacular purple outfit, this has also brightened my day (which needed it--it SNOWED here last night, GRRR).

Andromeda: I'm so glad! Thank you for saying so.

HipWriterMama: I have my father to thank for Sumi Jo. :) (And of course, I have Bede to thank for Lucia.)

Adrienne: I get a kick out of that too. I've told her "Count to three in your mind before you ask to see the video," but sometimes it's so hard to wait.
