Saturday night, Bede and I attended the gala auction to benefit Lucia's school. My storytelling services were up for the silent auction as a 30 minute performance for a birthday party. At first, I was concerned that no one would bid on my services. The first time I passed by my display, no one had placed any bids on the sheet.
"Do you think we should start off the bidding?" Bede asked.
"No!" I said. "That would be like my mother bidding on my artwork because she thought no one else would buy it."
By the end, there were a number of bids, and someone got me for the bargain price of $43.00. I found out from friends of mine that they attempted to jump-start the bidding on their own offer to do airport-taxi service, and ended up winning the bid.
During the live part of the auction, I got to hold the number. I held up our number so the auctioneer could see it, but didn't put it down quickly enough. After I won a 5 day vacation spot on Vancouver Island, Bede insisted he hold the number. We didn't bid on anything else in the live auction, though we did chip in for part of a 28 pound salmon. When we cook it, you're invited to help us eat it.
