The end of the year

When I first started this blog, I was almost 34. Now, I am almost 40. I will turn 40 three days after the Big Climb in March 2012. In my thirties, I had a child, learned to play guitar, and learned to sew. I read Carl Sagan's The Demon Haunted World and began to build my own "baloney-detection kit." I realized that I really, really liked my planet, and wanted to spend as much time on it as possible. My resolution for the new year: to do my part, and endeavor to do more to take care of our planet and its creatures.

Happy New Year! I wish you well, and hope that we may meet, or meet again.

Happy New Year! I remember when you were a girl and told me that you wanted to live a long time, like 200 years(:

But let's not rule out other planets. Retirement in the colonies!

I think what amazes me is that you didn't grow up knowing these things. You didn't have the 1:1 Mom-time and learn to sew (or a coherent Home Ick teacher), you didn't have lessons after school - you picked up all of these things - plus the whole How To Have A Child thing - on your own. Which is a pretty astounding decade, for all of that.

Here's to another fantastic ten. Maybe I'll learn to sew in this ten!

LSM: I don't remember saying I wanted to live 200 years (though I'm guessing that I imagined myself spry and fit throughout that long lifespan). My fantasy was that after death, I'd still be in existence as a faster-than-light entity that could indeed visit other planets and star systems.

Tanita: You're right. I didn't grow up knowing these things first hand (other than my great-aunt attempting to teach me embroidery), but my mom said that at least I grew up seeing other people sew and knit. Like my daughter now, I did better when other people taught me skills, and my mom was my mom, not my teacher. (Note to self: someone else will teach my daughter to drive.)

Jama: Hello! It's good to hear from you. I was just thinking about you yesterday in the context of all the yummy foods you appreciate and highlight on your blog.

Someone else will also teach my daughters to drive. Definitely.
