MotherReader's Fourth Annual 48 Hour Book Challenge is just four days away! Two years ago, I attempted to participate with humorously disastrous results. Last year, something was going on where I couldn't participate, but this year, despite one gig (not two, as one got rescheduled) and the painter coming, I am going to take part in the book challenge. I don't know how much reading I'll get done, but I plan to read! I have a number of books stacking up and more that I hope will come in time. Here's a sample of what I have waiting for me:

Salt: A World History, by Mark Kurlansky

School as a Journey: The Eight Year Odyssey, by Torin Finster

Improving Your Storytelling: Beyond the Basics for All Who Tell Stories in Work or Play, by Doug Lipman
The Story Biz Handbook, by Dianne de Las Casas
I know, some of these books do not look like escapist pleasure-reading. They've been on my "to read" list for a long, long time. I need to read them. If I have some dedicated time in which to read them, then they will actually be of use to me.
I plan to do some rereading as well. Urn Burial, by Robert Westall, and The Princess and the Goblin, by George MacDonald, are in the stack.

Well, I certainly can't put everything aside and read for 48 hours. But I always read several books a week. I can't not read.
I have to bypass the 48 Book challenge again: I have the Race for the Cure, the last baseball game of the season, my son's first communion, and my book club meeting at my house this weekend. Ack! But I know I'll find time to read. I'm on a bit of a fantasy kick and have The Gypsy Crown by Kate Forsyth and The Magic Thief by Sarah Prineas on my list. I love your list, by the way. I've read the picture book version of Kurlansky's Salt (illustrated by S.D. Schindler; it's good) and love the folktale Love Like Salt. Enjoy!
This is the first year I'm not doing the 48 Hour Reading Challenge. I think it's a great thing, but June is just a crazy-busy time for me, which leaves me with sadly pathetic results. I'll be enjoying watching everyone else participate, though--and it's my hope to do *some* reading in between all the other craziness I have going on.
I really don't know how many books I'll get to read. It's going to be a bit chaotic around here! But here's my cunning plan: after my gig on Saturday, I'm going to sit in the bookstore for awhile and read. That's the plan, anyway. We shall see!
