Where Do You Get Your Ideas?

A. fortis (one-half of the Finding Wonderland dazzling duo) draws cartoons for Toon Thursday. She's had a running theme called "Where Do You Get Your Ideas?" Some time ago, she asked for suggestions. Yesterday, she drew mine. Thank you, a.fortis!

As a writer, I get that question a few times. I think I even wrote a blog post about it! I basically said that I buy them from the Idea Store three blocks from my apartment, or else I tear those ideas from the dying fingers of helpless old ladies. Or words to that effect. And no, it's not true, there is no store like that where I live. But helpless old ladies do sometimes have good ideas... heh, heh, heh.

This was a funny one! Maybe this is why I get writer's block... ;-)

Very cute! I get lots in the shower, or ocean, or other bodies of water.

lone star, I've heard from people like Julia Cameron that being close to water is very good for creativity. Very cool that you've discovered that.

hipwritermama, I promise I'll stop stealing your ideas from now on!

I too have read that being near running water is good for creativity, and that is why, when Finn MacCool visited the bard Finnegan and obtained wisdom from the Salmon of Knowledge, he found the bard living by a river.

By the by, running water in our basement last Monday did not contribute to any sort of creativity whatsoever! http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/342147_stormmain04.html

Eek. Sorry.

I must disagree. Perhaps your basement was demonstrating a creative new method of water storage! Not helpful or in any way what you wanted, but creative nonetheless!
