Song of the Week: Safety Dance--The Donnas version

Today's installment of Song of the Week is a cover of The Safety Dance by The Donnas. The link is a streaming mp3. Give it a few moments to load. You can listen the original song by Men Without Hats (and see the video) right here. For a good while, the Men Without Hats version was one of Lucia's favorite songs. Whenever she heard it, she grinned and shot her arms up in the air. I would pick her up and bounce around the room. The song she liked almost as as much was Dragostea Tin Dei by O-Zone. These days, Lucia isn't as much into the synth-pop as she used to be. Yesterday, totally unprompted, she requested Lead Belly Sings for Children.

I will dance if I want to. I will leave my cares behind. And when I can dance if you don't dance then you're no friends of mine.

I'm sure Lucia dancing is quite a cute sight!

I wish I could dance to anything right now. I'll settle for playing my guitar quietly. But LOOK OUT when I'm back IN IT, MAMA!

LOL & XOXOXO

Thanks a trip down memory lane.

Lady K: Playing one's guitar quietly is a good thing. I'll be glad when you can dance again, though.

HWM: You're welcome! It's weird-- as far as politics and economics go, the 80's seem far away. In terms of music, they feel recent to me.

Get Lucia into "Spend the Night With The Donnas" and then we'll talk.

I have "Dragostea Tin Dei" on my iPod. It's hard *not* to dance to that song.

Have you tried her on the B52's Rock Lobster? That's a big hit at our house...

I didn't care for 80's pop music in the 80's! I liked the dead Kennedys and stuff like that instead...but now I like the 80s music much better. I almost forgot the Men without Hats....
Rock Lobster is awesome!

Diana-- I really liked the top 40 music from the first 1/2 of the 1980's. Remember, Joan Jett had a #1 hit in 1982.:) I don't know Rock Lobster-- I'll have to check them out.

My all time favorite 80's movies weren't even made in the 80's: "Donnie Darko" and "The Wedding Singer."

What?!? You don't know "Rock Lobster"? How does that make any sense?

I'll be making you borrow The B-52's first album...
