The Goddess of Clarity reads so I don't have to

Hey! The Goddess of Clarity is rereading the Harry Potter books so you don't have to. When I last checked, she had just posted her summary of HP* and the Goblet of Fire. I know, some of you actually wanted to read them yourselves. That's fine. Just remember how I spectacularly flubbed the 48 Hour Book challenge, and you'll understand why I appreciate The Goddess o' Clarity's herculean efforts.

*Not HP Sauce, though.

Urrgh! Harry Potter! Hateful. It's like a big commercial machine - a religious cult you shouldn't challenge and the content is so banal. I read half of the first one and just had to give up. I was bored to death... but then I was always a glutton for reality.

Well, I like HP, even if it's no Lord of The Rings. And it's a joy to see young folks lining up overnight to READ A BOOK.

Alkelda: Thanks for the plug! I'm trying to keep the re-cap sections brief but it's, um, challenging...

YP: A heretic! A heretic! Burn the heretic!

(actually, I didn't get into the HP books myself until the fourth one, when a nanny friend of mine convinced me to give them a try. I don't read much fiction, and I've never really enjoyed novels about things that could actually happen. If you're going to go to the bother of making something up, you might as well really make something up. In for a penny, in for a pound, I say.)

I have yet to read any of the Harry Potter books. Oddly, the sun continues to rise and set...

Thanks for the link. That is exactly what I was looking for this morning. I was feeling guilty for not having time to re-read them all. Of course my memory is like a sieve so I need the review before I can get into the last book.

I started weeks ago listening to book 6 on audiocassette. Jim Dale is such a wonderful reader!
Unfortunately, I totally underestimated the time it would take. Last night, while waiting for the line to get shorter, I was listening to Tape 11. Then, after my son went to sleep, refusing to listen to a chapter first, I sat out in the car in the garage and listened to part of Tape 12. At 3:30 am, I gave up! Today I will probably drive in a roundabout way to the library (someone has the tapes on hold, and they are overdue) to finally finish Book 6. Alas! My car has a cassette player, but I don't think I have anything so old-fashioned anywhere else in my house. Fortunately, as I guessed, the first chapter of Book 7 is more of an intro that doesn't depend on Book 6. Too bad I couldn't stop myself until I had read 7 chapters!
