Ash Wednesday and Aliens

I have not forgotten about the aliens. These past two days, it's been challenging to sit down and write something creative. Lucia has required a lot of attention. To put it bluntly, she has been whiny and prone to meltdowns.

Lucia helped me clean up the bedroom yesterday, and I did get a lot done: items boxed and labeled for pickup, craft supplies sorted and winnowed, and dust-bunnies banished to the outside of the house. However, when she discovered the sticky-notes, I let her peel them off one by one just so I could have 10 minutes of focused quiet. Last night, for the first time in awhile, we had to put the safety gate up in the doorway of her bedroom. Bede was running a gaming session downstairs, and came up periodically to find out how we were holding up. Lucia finally went to sleep around 10:30 pm.

That was how I spent my Mardi Gras. I hope you had more fun!

Today is Ash Wednesday. During these 40 days of Lent, I'm giving up sweets and limiting myself to one cup of coffee day. I admit, the impetus is more for dietary reasons than spiritual ones, but perhaps (as some have suspected) they are linked. I don't know if I will make it to Ash Wednesday Mass this year. Last year, I brought Lucia to Ash Wednesday Mass, and 40 minutes later, we still hadn't gotten the ashes on our foreheads. Guess who had a meltdown.

Enough grizzling and groaning on my part. No more excuses. I'll work on a story today. The aliens are waiting.

Better nights to you. Actually, 10:30 doesn't sound so bad. Mine often holds out for another hour even though I let her nurse to sleep in my bed (this is how I get so much readong done; people are always asking me). The sleep-deprived joys of parenting...I think people should do experiments on us to determine what sort of extreme conditions humans can cope with. I really think the military is missing out.

Looking forward to the next alien installment!

I bet you're having pancakes every day for breakfast. SAVORY pancakes!

ONE cup of coffee!?!

I could never do it. Does the waxing crecent effect children's mood? My two year old has been hell on wheels lately.

Good Luck!

What kind of gaming is Bede in to?

I've recently fallen in love with WizKids' Pirates CSG.

Lone Star Ma: I think one always gets used to something good. Ten-thirty sounds awful to me because I've gotten used to having my own time in the evenings, and I get a bit wiggy when I don't have it. Back in the earlier days, I was wiggy all the time. I do wish Lucia would understand (and I know it's too much to expect at this point, so don't worry) that when I need a little space, it's not a rejection of her. I just get overstimulated, that's all.

Phil: We'll have savory pancakes every day only if you come over and make them.

Nonny: Bede and I discussed the one cup of coffee a day deal, and decided that forgoing all alcohol (and sweets for me) is the more sensible way to go. I'll have more than one cup, but only the first cup can be caffeinated.

Hitman J: Currently, Bede is a Laser Squad Nemesis fan. He has played Pirates too (cute ships! Way too much fun, I'm sure). Oh yes, and Burning Wheel is the RPG he's playing now.

Lady K: I briefly fancied myself a Wiccan at one point in my life! (That'll probably disqualify me for running for any public offices, I guess. All it really amounted to was a love of the moon and calling God "She" much of the time.) What I really wanted was a proper acknowledgement of the feminine aspects of the Divine.

Thanks for stopping by! Here there be aliens.

P.S. Hitman J, I forgot to mention that when I'm not near a computer and someone asks me what Bede plays, I inevitably reply, Space Invaders." Sometimes, if I'm really silly, I'll say he plays Battleship. My favorite game, of course, is "Orks meet My Little Pony and All Go out for Ice Cream."
