The Spell of Medusa

I recently reviewed Mythological Creatures: a Classical Beastiary, by Lynn Curlee. I read to Lucia the one-page overview of the gorgon Medusa, and now the pages of her sketchpad are thronging with snakey-haired gorgons. Next to one of the pictures is an M, a character that looks like an A but is supposed to be an E, and a D. Bede said that Lucia told him she had spelled “Medusa.” This is the first time we have ever known her to attempt to spell.*

*Full disclosure: Lucia knows that P-A-R-K spells something wonderful.

  1. Dude, she got it in one! M...A...D. That's our Gorgon girl. Slightly off her rocker...

How cute that the first word she tries to spell? Is Medusa!?

Who else has a kid like this, I ask you? Seriously?!

(In the field of bright kids, my nephew, at six months, ate hummus last week as his first semi-solid food. And LOVES IT.)

  2. TadMack: Your nephew has good taste!

In today's artistic House of Glee news, Lucia has (1)drawn a picture of Medusa and St. Lucia hanging out (2) announced that Medusa and Athena are now friends.

  3. She is a very special little girl! The Lone Star girl dressed up as Medusa for her school's big Greek Day in 5th grade.
